Slovakia achieved an identical record to ourselves in the last international break, winning a play-off semi final on penalties (we don’t need to tell you who it was against) before losing both of their following Nations League games against Scotland and Israel. As a result of Slovakia’s poor Nations League form, manager Pavel Hapal was sacked five days after their play-off semi-final win. The Slovaks have acted promptly to name Stefan Tarkovic as Interim Manager for the play-off final in Belfast on 12th November. Tarkovic is no stranger to the Slovakian national team set-up having enjoyed five years as an assistant to Jan Kozak between 2013 and 2018, during which Slovakia qualified for their first ever European Championships as an independent nation. Prior to this, Tarkovic managed various Slovakian club sides.

It is unlikely that Tarkovic is going to make large-scale changes to the Slovakia squad. We take a look at some of the squad which has lost all four of their Nations League games this campaign, but who still represent a stern test for Baraclough’s men with a place at the European Championships at stake.
